Yes, our food is suitable for puppies and weaning. It is an All Life Stage Food so the only thing that needs to change is the amount of food you serve, not the food itself. It is suitable for Puppies, Adults and Senior dogs.This is great news as it means once your dog is settled onto our food you don’t have to worry about changing their diet when they reach a milestone like adulthood or their senior years.
Your bag will have a best before date on it and the food will last up until this date even after opening. All you need to do is store it in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Simply roll the bag down and clip it. Each new batch of our food is made to last 12 months from date of manufacture.
At NovaDogFood the quality of our meat is important. Our fresh chicken is free run and from the UK, as is our beef liver, kidney and heart. Our trout is from the UK or Ireland. Our Salmon is mainly from Scotland but occasionally when stocks are low we have to go to Norway. We always use free range British eggs in our recipe.
Our food will keep perfectly well if stored in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. A cupboard in the kitchen is fine. Do not store next to a radiator. As with all dry foods, try to keep the bag as airtight as possible after opening, ideally keeping the food in the original bag and placing it in an airtight container.
NovaDogFood does not contain any grain which is the cause of many allergies. We have had super feedback from customers on improvements to skin, coat and itching when their dog moved to NovaDogFood. If your dog has a chicken allergy try our Oily Fish recipe which is completely chicken free.
We are proud to say our food is made in the UK where the highest standards during production are extremely important. Being eco-friendly is important to us, by making our food in the UK it means we keep transportation low which is better for the planet. Freshly prepared is the term we use to describe the finest human grade quality meat and fish ingredients that are delivered to our site chilled, by our own refrigerated transport to maintain the highest quality conditions. In our on-site meat kitchen, we gently cook each meat at circa 82ºC (180ºF) to both protect the proteins and ensure maximum digestibility and nutritional value to the dog. This is a temperature that allows us to kill harmful bacteria (Salmonella, E-coli and Campylobacter) and preserve as much of the natural goodness as possible. You do not need to add water to serve.
To keep NovaDogFood fresh and nutritious, follow these simple storage guidelines:

Providing your dog with fresh, clean water at all times is essential for their health and wellbeing.
The amount a dog needs to drink depends on their size, activity level, diet and the outside temperature. As a general guideline, dogs should drink 25-50ml of water per kg of body weight in a 24-hour period:
🐾 10kg dog → 250-500ml per day
🐾 33kg dog → 825-1,650ml per day
Previously Fed a Raw or Wet Diet? Dogs switching from raw or wet food will naturally drink more, as raw meat and wet foods contain high water content (e.g., chicken breast is 70% water).
✅ Use the Right Bowl – Choose a stainless steel or ceramic bowl over plastic, which can leach chemicals into the water.
✅ Monitor Water Intake – Fill the bowl at the same time each day to track consumption. Refresh rather than top up, and keep it clean.
✅ Never Remove Water – Your dog should always have access to water, even if you remove uneaten food.
✅ Encourage Drinking – Some dogs prefer freshly run, filtered, or cooler water. If your dog is reluctant to drink, consider a filtered bowl or water fountain.
🚫 Avoid Puddle Drinking – Outdoor water sources can contain bacteria or parasites that cause tummy upsets.
🚫 Limit Salty Foods – Human foods high in salt can make dogs excessively thirsty and should be avoided.
Excessive thirst could indicate an underlying issue. If you’re concerned, consult your vet.
